Formalities

Many couples find it difficult to know where to start with the formalities of their marriage ceremony.  I am happy to help in every way I can to make is as easy as possible. With your assistance we can create a ceremony that will be all you ever dreamed it to be!

The beauty of a civil ceremony is that apart from the minimum, legal requirements, you can incorporate the wording of your choice into every section of your ceremony - there is certainly no "right or wrong". Your words must simply come from your heart and must be true for you both.

Please contact me for a time to meet – either your home or mine. We can then arrange to discuss your plans and ideas. If you are happy with our first meeting, we will then progress to the next step and complete the required, legal documents.

Legal Marriage Requirements in Australia:

          • The legal age for marriage in Australia is 18 years or over.

• By law, a Notice of Intended Marriage (NOIM) must be completed and lodged with your celebrant no earlier than 18 months and no later than one month and one day prior to your wedding date.

• If you live in Australia, I need to sight your original Birth Certificate. If you were born overseas, I must sight your original Birth Certificate or passport from your country of birth.

• If you’ve had a previous marriage, I must also sight the Divorce papers or Death Certificate of your former husband or wife. If you do not have any of these documents, the process is not difficult to obtain them and we can discuss this at the time of our meeting.

All legal paperwork is completed and lodged by me to the Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages.

A booking fee of $150 is required to hold your ceremony date and time once the NOIM is lodged.
